National Board Members
Carl LaBarbera is the Founder and President of the Kingdomworks SDG Foundation, serving non-profit organizations by "maximizing capacity to complete their mission". Experienced in the area of Board Governance and Organizational Development, he serves as Board Chairman of World Impact, Inc., Grace Brethren Long Beach, and the Urban Youth Workers Institute. He also serves as Board director of the Barnabas Group Los Angeles.
Carl worked as an owner/entrepreneur in the Aerospace Industry for 24 years. Responsible for companies from start-up and organizational development to growth and divestiture, he has a record of planning and implementing strategic vision, goals, and values to achieve growth through the empowerment of people and the utilization of resources.
Carl and his wife Robin, a professor of Education at Biola University, live in Seal Beach, CA.
Bob Shank is the Founder/CEO of The Master's Program, providing strategic life mentoring for Christian marketplace and ministry leaders, and is the co-founder of The Barnabas Group. He has been a mentor to thousands of Kingdom leaders over the last 20 years.
His 40-year career includes 14 years as a successful entrepreneur in the construction industry, four years as Senior Pastor of a megachurch in California, and 25 years as a founder/CEO in the non-profit sector.
Today, he serves on the governing boards of large churches in California, New Mexico and Florida, as well as seven parachurch ministries and two foundations. Married since 1971, he and Cheri live in Southern California, near their two adult daughters and their families.
Jim West is the Managing Partner of The Barnabas Group, Orange County as well as the co-Founder of The Barnabas Group in 2000. He is also the Executive Director of The Pocket Testament League, a 120-year-old ministry that mobilizes and equips Christians to read, carry and share God's Word. He is also co-Managing Partner of the San Diego Barnabas Group.
Jim spent 21 years in senior management in the mortgage industry. He taught school (college and junior high school physical education) for 10 years prior to that. He has a Master's Degree from California State University, Los Angeles. He is currently on the Board for International Training and Equipping Ministries. Jim's passion is evangelism and he is often on mission trips sharing the Gospel.
He is married to Suzy and lives in San Clemente, CA.
Becky currently serves as the National Managing Partner for The Barnabas Group. In this capacity, she is able to use her unique giftings and skills to fulfill her passion for discipleship and stewardship by serving the national network of TBG leaders and members who are impacting Kingdom advancing ministries.
Since becoming a Christ follower, the Lord has done an amazing work as bit by bit and inch-by-inch He has delivered, transformed and renewed Becky to become the woman of God she is today. Becky has been blessed to minister around the world and experience God’s work in the villages of Africa, the high-rise apartments of Moscow as well as the streets of downtown Atlanta and Houston.
Becky graduated Mercer University in Macon, Georgia with a degree in Communications and, for now, God has called Becky to walk in the gift of singleness.
Steve Esser is the COO/Executive Director of The Master's Program, a strategic life mentoring program for Christian marketplace and ministry leaders, and is a founding member of The Barnabas Group in Orange County, California.
His 40-year career includes 6 years as a public school teacher, 25 years in the heating and air conditioning industry, with 15 of those years as the President and Owner of Pro Heating & Air in Southern California. For the last nine years, he has served The Master's Program. He also has an expert witness consulting business.
Currently he serves on the governing boards of three non-profits, and is involved in ministry in his local church in Southern California. He is also actively involved in discipling men to grow in Christ and to be spiritual leaders.
He and his wife Clara make their home in Orange, CA and are blessed to have their two married daughters nearby along with their five grandchildren.
Greg Leith is the CEO of Convene. He was born in Canada and lived in all four corners of North America. His career spans over 35 years of senior leadership roles in corporate, non-profit and academic sectors.
Greg recently served as the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Corporate Relations at Biola University in Southern California where he is responsible for creating and maintaining strategic alliances with organizations, networks, corporations, executives and individuals that create mutual benefit and secure financial capital for the University. Greg has consulted nationally and internationally for small business and large corporate structures. His career spans 30 years of for-profit, non-profit, and academic experience in senior executive and independent business roles.
Greg was an executive for 20 years with The ServiceMaster Company, a multi-national, $9 billion firm. He served in various leadership capacities throughout North America as a Vice-President, Director of People Management, Controller, Regional Operations Manager, Director of Sales and Marketing and independent business owner and franchisor.
Greg has served as a board member to many non-profit organizations including Youth for Christ, Outreach Canada, and is the Chairman of Christian Credit Counselors. Greg and his wife, Shelley, have been married for almost 30 years, are the parents of five children and are passionate about teaching how God's truths can change lives, businesses, marriages and families.
For over 17 years, Steve Philp has been Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Incast Asset Management, Inc., a $35 million manufacturer of air duct and fittings to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry in the western United States. IAM currently employs over 160 people, doing business under the OMNIDUCT name in California, Arizona and Washington. Prior to joining IAM, Steve served as controller for five years at a consumer electronics company and began his career as a CPA for ten years in the audit/accounting division at a Big 8 accounting firm.
In addition to the Barnabas Group, Steve currently serves on the board of directors of several non-profit entities, including Chairman of Forest Home, a Christian camping and conference ministry, and Websites for Heroes, which provides safe, interactive websites for deployed military heroes to stay connected with their families.
Steve has been married for over 33 years and has three grown daughters. Steve and his wife, Lori, attend Rosarito Beach Christian Church and split their time between Tustin, CA, and Puerto Nuevo, Baja California, Mexico.
Jim Johnson, a CPA partner of Johnson Hart & Dyson Accountants since 1976, is an Elder and member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, California. He is a co-Founder and Board Chairman of National Christian Foundation of Southern California (formerly The Foundation for Christian Stewardship), a Christian foundation whose donors have contributed over $110 million dollars to God's Kingdom work since 1996. James is a member of the Board of directors for Priority Living and several other corporations.
He and his wife, Anne, live in Newport Beach, CA.
Pat Brady is President and founder of an executive search business (since 1984) and was also President of a Chicago-based staffing services company from 1988 - 2013.
He spent 21 years serving in Deacon and Elder capacities in the local church providing leadership through various church transitions while serving several terms as President/Board Chair as well as Committee Chair for pastoral search teams.
Current ministry engagement includes board membership and advisory capacities in six ministries that focus on serving the Christian marketplace leadership sector as well as those that are servicing disenfranchised people groups around the globe.
He and his wife, Chris, have three adult children and reside in the Chicago area.
John Moore began his career in the Employee Benefits field in 1986 as a carrier representative. In 1989, John switched to the broker/consultant side of the business. He joined the Gallagher Benefit Services Houston team in 2010, as Area Vice President.
John is a graduate of the University of Houston Business School with a BBA in Management. He is a native Houstonian committed to serving the community at large. He is an Elder at Christ Presbyterian Church, serves on the boards of The Gathering and Hunters' Harvest, and is a Lifetime Committeeman of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
John has been married to his wife, Susie, since 1980 and has three grown sons. John and Susie love everything burnt orange in support of where their youngest sons play football and swim. When time allows, John enjoys playing golf and hunting.
Alan Pott is the CEO/President of American Home Equity, a multi state, wholesale and retail residential mortgage banking firm. He previously served as President of the Orange County Chapter of the California Mortgage Bankers Association. In addition, he also served as a member of the Board of the California Association of Mortgage Brokers.
His 25 year career includes 19 years as a successful entrepreneur in finance/banking and 6 additional years of prior self employment. Alan graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Finance.
Alan has served as the founding member of his church's Elder Board, and currently serves as board member for The Master's Program.
He and Barbara make their home in Orange County, CA with one child still in High School and one in College.
